Length: Spring Semester | Class Period: Thursday, period 4 (offered again in 2025-26) |
Description: An estimated 20 to 50 percent of students enter college as “undecided,” and an estimated 75 percent of students change their major at least once before graduation. In addition, college is not the best option for everybody. Not having a career plan or changing plans can cost thousands of dollars in extra tuition and time. Give your student an advantage by taking the nationally recognized Career Direct career assessment that integrates your student’s personality, interests, natural skills and abilities, and their work and life values. After your student completes the assessment, then the parents, student, and tutor will meet for a 3-hour consultation where we will discuss the assessment results and choose some career options that fit the unique design of your student. Students will learn the Biblical perspective of work, complete steps in their career exploration research, conduct an information interview, and hear from guest speakers about different careers. By the end of the semester, students will feel confident in moving forward after graduation to fulfill the purpose that God has for them. Note: The class fee includes the cost of the Career Direct assessment. Tutor: Kim Witthuhn works as a professional editor and has taught literature, writing, grammar, history, and geography at various homeschool organizations over the last 20 years, including homeschooling her own children. She is also a career consultant and enjoys helping people discover the unique design God gave them. Mrs. Witthuhn graduated from Concordia University with a BA in English and Social Science Education. She lives in Eden Prairie with her husband and two of her four children and enjoys studying the Bible, reading, learning, and spending time with family.
