Description: This Algebra 1 class covers the following topics:

  • Sets of numbers and operations
  • Algebraic Expressions
  • Solving Linear Equations and Inequlalities
  • Relations, Functions, and Graphs
  • Systems of Equations and Inequalities
  • Polynomials
  • Radicals and Exponents
  • Solving Quadratic Equations
  • Rational Expressions and Equations
  • Word Problems

Four to five lessons will be presented each week, and the student will be expected to complete and correct each week's assignments, with questions answered at the next class. Assignment notes, help videos, and other supplemental resources will be available online for all students on the CHAT math website.

If you are not sure if your student is ready for algebra 1, please email Mrs. Nelson for help determining readiness.

Scheduling note:  There is the possibility that the tutor may be absent a week in the spring. There will either be a substitute teacher, the tutor will record the lesson as a video and hold extended office hours upon her return, or the final exams will be taken on the make-up day.

Tutor: Kim Nelson graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Mathematics from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. She holds a current Minnesota teaching license in secondary mathematics.  Mrs. Nelson taught math at Henry Sibley High School is West St. Paul for 6 years before starting her family.  She homeschooled all 4 of her children, and has taught everything from Pre-K to Calculus. She is the co-founder of CHAT and has been teaching math classes at CHAT since it began in 2004.

Cost:  $230, $240, or $250 per semester (depending on registration date)
