|Length: Full Year||Class Period: Thursday, eCHAT period 1 (9:00-10:00) or period 5 (12:45-1:45) (Choose one)|
Description: It is pure joy for students this age to experiment with many different types of mediums and materials such as chalk pastel, acrylic, fabric, paper, watercolor, and more, to learn about the basics of art and to develop art skill that they can carry with them for the rest of their life. There are many components to art such as composition, color blending, lines, perspective and shapes, and from my experience as an art teacher, I believe that God has blessed everyone with some gifting in some of these areas. Art skills such as these are useful in many careers later in life, such as architecture, fashion design, home décor, and publications of any sort, web design, and graphic arts. This class will focus on developing an understanding of the different sensations and emotions that shapes, lines, and color can create. We will experiment with many different mediums to make a wide range of artwork, gift wrap, picture stories, 3-D objects, animals and many other fun artistic pieces, all while focusing on the basics of art so that the student can have very good understanding of the basics and expand their skills in everyday life. The basic art skills learned in this class can be applied throughout life.

In addition to enjoying painting on canvas, Andrea paints furniture, room murals, has painted a 10’x20’ mural in the library in McGregor MN and worked with students and locals on another large mural in Ciudad Juarez, MX. She has also painted sets for several full-length plays, some of which she directed in the homeschool arena. Andrea and her husband have a passion to help ground young people in the Christian faith, realizing that all forms of communication, including art have the ability to either draw you towards or away from the truths of God. She believes that beauty is a reflection of God, and art classes can empower students to find creative ways to share God with the world.
