Description: This class is designed to equip 1st graders in being “tuneful, beatful, and artful” young musicians who can sing joyfully, play musical games, listen and move to music, learn about and play percussion instruments, and interact socially through the medium of music. Snacks and Water Bottles: Children should bring a water bottle every week and a healthy snack to eat at the beginning of class, such as apple slices, cut veggies, or a protein snack. Children should be able to open/peel their snack on their own. Students will be invited to perform with their class for the Christmas program and spring showcase. Vocal coach/director: Abbie Stewart has a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from North Central University with a double minor in Business Administration and Christian Studies. She has been singing for as long as she can remember, has played the flute since 4th grade, and has been involved in auditioned choirs in high school, college, and beyond. A memorable moment in her musical journey was when she learned to harmonize with her sisters at age 12 during a family mission trip in Tanzania. She has a passion for seeing students fall in love with music at a young age like she did and experience “light-bulb” moments. In her free time, she enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, songwriting, and serving on the worship team at church alongside her husband, Thomas.
