eCHAT Spanish and Music
(Grades 1-2)
Tutor: Christina Sluka
Email:christina.sluka@chatclasses.com
Length: Full Year Class Period: Thursday, eCHAT Period 6 (1:45-2:45 p.m.)

Description:   This class will be split into two periods. For the first half of the class (except for weeks 12-15 since we will focus only on music to prepare for the performance), students will explore communicating in Spanish primarily through singing songs, playing games, and dialoguing with classmates. Daily review (5-10 minutes) of weekly lessons at home is highly recommended. Repetition is essential for language learning and your child will benefit more from the class if you can make time to review at home. A Quizlet link will be sent home to cover material learned in class and worksheets will be sent home from time to time. Please consider carving out time in your school schedule to review these helpful materials.

Music will include skills such as singing melody, listening for correct pitch, and growing familiar with tone and dynamics. Students will also begin to explore music theory by clapping rhythms and using other instruments such as boom whackers and bells. A composer will be highlighted throughout the year and students will identify the sound of different instruments used in an orchestra. Students may be invited to play instruments, narrate, sing solos or duets for the Christmas program and spring showcase. It's helpful for preparation of roles, if parents could let the instructor know as soon as possible if your child will not be able to attend one or both of these performances. Additionally, it is to everyone's advantage if each child spent 5-10 minutes during weeks 12-15 to practice the songs for the performance. It can replace the 5-10 minutes in your schedule carved out to practice Spanish.

Students will be invited to perform with their class for the Christmas program and spring showcase.

Covid - 19 Contingency Plan - In the event that we are forced to transition to online classes at any point in the school year, this class will continue to be held.
