Length: Full Year or by semester Class Period: Thursday, eCHAT period 4 (12:00-12:45)

Description: Mrs. Berscheid will be teaching students a variety of math games, many based on the RightStart Math program. Each class will have multiple games, logic, and word problems to fit the different skill levels among the students. We will be covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percentages. The goal of the class is to make math fun while competing in a friendly environment. Students will become quicker with their math facts and more proficient with their mental math and logical reasoning skills while learning new strategies and solidifying what is already being taught at home. We also will be doing some math art creating fun designs using math. Playing math games is a great way to build confidence and be better prepared for higher level math.

In addition to the math games, about one time per month we will be doing STEM challenge projects. In these classes students will be presented with an engineering challenge with limited supplies and will need to work as a team planning, designing, and building. Students will be making various designs of bridges, towers, and launchers. Students will also learn about simple electrical circuits making battery operated cars and physics principles when we design marble roller coasters.
