Description: Art is pure joy at this age — and this class leans into that fully. Students will experiment with a wide variety of materials including chalk pastel, watercolor, fabric, paper, and more, all while building a strong foundation in the basics of art.

We'll explore the core elements that make art come alive: composition, color blending, lines, perspective, and shape. I believe that God has gifted every student in at least some of these areas — this class is about discovering where those gifts lie and developing them.

Students will create a wide range of projects: paintings, 3-D objects, animals, and other fun artistic pieces, with each one designed to deepen their understanding of how shapes, lines, and color create different feelings and sensations.

The skills built here reach far beyond the classroom. Art fundamentals show up throughout life — in careers like architecture, fashion design, graphic arts, web design, home décor, and publishing — and the confidence and creativity developed early carry with them for years to come.

Students will have the opportunity to showcase their work at the CHAT Christmas Celebration and the Spring Showcase.

Tutor: Katie Quinn graduated with honors from CHAT Academy, with MÂCHÉ. She attended Harding University with a major in Fine Arts. Over the past few years, Katie has expanded her experience with art by teaching at a private art school, participating in exhibitions, vending at art fairs, and hosting painting events. Katie has taught all ages, with a primary focus on elementary and middle school students. As a previously homeschooled child herself, she has a passion for homeschooling and the impact it can have on a child’s life. Katie has worked with the homeschool curriculum company, Master Books, to illustrate the book “Catch on to Cursive.”  Katie believes that everybody has a “creative bone” in their bodies, placed there by a thoughtful Creator. God is the original creator, designer, and teacher. Through us, His creations, we can create for His glory.
